Violet
Violet Carino was born in 1917 in Florence, Italy. As a child she immigrated with her parents to Hoboken, New Jersey, where she spent much of her young adult life. Growing up near one of America’s largest cities, Violet was exposed to a new culture unlike anything she had seen before. While growing up in Hoboken, Violet had a very unique and special experience that she would not realize until much later in her life; one of her close childhood friends was Frank Sinatra. As young adults, her and Frank grew apart following his rise to fame and fortune. At the start of World War 2 Violet was eager to marry the love of her life, but to the social and political turmoil of the times, this arrangement was not possible. Following the war, Violet struggled with the social and political aspects of her background.
